The variable jacks are just that variable.they have a volume control,which is usually on the remote and not often on the front panel of the unit.they allow you to hook up the cdp directly to an amplifier and control the volume from the cdp without a separate preamp,or alternatively remotely control the volume of your cd playback on a system without a remote capable preamp or pending on how things are implemented internally they may or may not sound quite as good as the "regular" outputs.if you're getting no signal at all from the variable outputs,the volume control for them is likely just turned down or off.Īs for the regular outputs.if the headphone jack works,then you know internally things are working in stereo.that's good.so the problem is either in the output stage or more likely a bad connection at the output jacks.will it come on or make noise if you "wiggle" the plug for the bad channel?the first step would be to check the jacks themselves and then the solder connections linking them to the 's pretty common for a bad connection to develop here,there can be a fair amount of stress applied to the jacks and from there to the soldered connections on the board from yanking on cables etc.E n Compact Disc Player DX-7555 Instruction Manual Thank you for purchasing an Onkyo Compact Disc Player.
